Praetorian Sniper Team

Introduced in Reconquest: Phase 1

Praetorian Sniper Teams are elite sharpshooter units, drawn from the already select ranks of the Praetorian special forces. In addition to honing their formidable marksmanship skills, sniper training enhances surveillance and fieldcraft skills, allowing operatives to double as forward observers.

Praetorian Snipers can also employ their prolific abilities and high powered rifles in a limited anti-air role. While they cannot engage fast moving aircraft, they can pick out weak spots in loitering fliers, such as fuel lines and engine intakes.

Snipers operate alongside Digital Ghillies, artificial constructs which function both as spotters and urban optical camouflage generators. They function by projecting an optical distortion field over windows and vantage posts, thereby disrupting enemy fire.

This wide range of abilities makes Praetorian Snipers excellent multi-role troops, able to eliminate multiple threats with lethal precision.

Transport: 1x Raven-A Light Dropship (3 units only) or 1x Bear APC (4 units only). In addition, may share 1x Condor Medium Dropship with another Sniper Team or Praetorian Team, providing they are both mounted in Bear APCs.

Digital Ghillies: This piece of equipment creates an optical illusion distortion field ahead of sniper teams, making them difficult to pick out clearly. Any weapon firing against Praetorian Sniper Teams suffers a +2 modifier to its Accuracy value (to a maximum of 6+). Flame weapons ignore this modifier. Note that this modifier takes effect in addition to other modifiers, such as Soft Cover.

Precision Small Arms: Praetorian Snipers are expert marksman armed with heavy calibre, high velocity rifles. As such, they can be a threat to loitering enemy aircraft by targeting poorly armoured, vulnerable areas. When using the Small Arms rule, this weapon may use its full Range(full) and Range(coutered) values, rather than the standard 6“. However, this requires careful aim, and therefore this weapon cannot be used in Reaction Fire.

1)
Size: 1 Infantry
2)
This unit gains a Passive Countermeasures save equal to the X value against Close Quarters weapons and Collateral Damage.
3)
This unit may be Directly Deployed even when the scenario would not normally allow it to do so, ignoring the Aerial Advantage rule. It may deploy up to the listed number of inches from a friendly table edge. Infantry with this special rule may deploy directly into a Garrison if within range.
4)
A unit with this special rule is immune to Critical hits. They instead act just like normal hits, doing a single point of damage.
5)
Penetrative weapons always do damage to targets on a damage roll of 6.
6)
Units with a Dodge value may attempt to evade hits in a CQB in the same manner as with Passive Countermeasures. Units with both Passive Countermeasures and a Dodge value may use both in succession.
7)
Reduced Weapons - The number of shots this weapon may fire is as follows: Shots = Original Sh value - (Dp lost x RW value).
8)
Sniper weapons ignore Soft and Body Cover. Sniper weapons can only inflict a maximum of 1 Dp per shot.
9)
Small Arms weapons may replaced all of their normal shots with a single AA shot at a range of 6“ using the weapon's normal Ac value, when firing at Aircraft only. The Energy value of this shot is equal to the number after SA. This rule has no effect if the infantry base using the weapon is reduced to less than half its original Dp.
10)
Dispersed Formation - This unit can only ever sustain 1Dp per hit.
11)
Units with this special rule may direct deploy even when the scenario would not normally allow them to do so, up to X inches onto the battlefield from any friendly table edge. If infantry with this special rule deploy into a structure containing an Objective or Intel, they may not search on the first turn of the game.
